About Gloria DeGaetano |
|
My professional experiences described below are, of course, important for you to know about. But really, my parenting experiences taught me more. Now grown into remarkable men, my sons brought out the best in me and made me realize just how much I could do and give when love is the focus. Unconditional love energizes, rejuvenates, and comforts I have found. I also found the discipline and organizational skills I didn’t know I had until I became a single mother. For several tough years with ever-present health and financial challenges, I thought I could not go on another day. But thanks to daily fun, creative experiences with my boys, I found a way to not only survive, but to thrive as a solo parent. Participating fully in their lives brought me new life each and every day—and gave me the will to stay organized! As a mom I also discovered a listening capacity that developed over time—especially during their teen years. I learned to ask questions and go for the heart of the matter as much as possible. Once again reinforcing for me that it’s through authentic relationship that we help people to become who they are capable of being. I uncovered objective parts of me that could push past fears and find new levels of trust and respect—both for my sons and for myself. Forgiving myself for the mistakes and the omissions over those fleeting 18 years, I find myself now reinforcing to others the importance of being gentle with our selves. When we do the best we can with love, our kids know that. The journey of parenting is a most sacred one—each step worthy of our utmost care and compassion.
